Reno artist Eunkang Koh comes to Arts Center

Reno artist Eunkang Koh will be at the Art Center on Oct. 17 to give a talk on “Human Cache,” her exhibition of new prints, drawings and mixed-media works that are on view in the Classroom Gallery.

The talk will begin at 4 p.m. and a reception for the artist will follow from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, you can call Churchill Arts at 775-423-1440.

Tickets for Hot Club of Cowtown

Tickets are now on sale for the performance by the dynamic ensemble Hot Club of Cowtown who will perform in the Barkley Theatre on Oct. 23.

The dynamic ensemble was named 2015 Western Swing Group of the Year at the Ameripolitan Music Awards.

Drawing upon influences from Django Reinhardt to Bob Wills, from Hot Jazz to Texas Western Swing, and over the course of seven studio albums and performances around the world, the intrepid trio has brought audiences to their feet at venues from Mountain Stage and Prairie Home Companion to Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The Hot Club is comprised of Elana James (vocals and violin), Whit Smith (vocals and guitar) and the double bass player, Jake Erwin.

The group’s name reflects two of their primary musical influences. Hot Club references the music of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli and Cowtown invokes the western swing of Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys.

They’ve released a dozen albums including “Ghost Train,” “Continental Stomp,” “The Best of the Hot Club of Cowtown,” and most recently “Rendezvous in Rhythm.” They were inducted into the Western Swing Hall of Fame and have toured with Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and the Squirrel Nut Zippers.

In addition to their jam-packed touring schedule, they’ve also traveled as musical ambassadors for the U.S. State Department performing in Eastern Europe with dates in Azerbaijan, Armenia and Georgia.
