It’s that time of year again, when sponsors are sought to support the Celebrity Chef & Harvest Dinner, hosted by Cafe at Adele’s and now in its sixth year.
A major donor, (composed of one donor or many) for the amount of $5,000 is still needed. The $5,000 match is collected through donations both large and small, by dinner patrons.
“The original donor or donors make the commitment that they will match the $5,000, provided we gather the amount by and through donations from dinner patrons, which gets into a very fun time,” said Karen Abowd, Greenhouse Project president and co-owner of Cafe at Adele’s with her husband, Chef Charlie Abowd. “Warren Trepp donated $5,000 one year and Dian Garret and Frank Tucker donated $5,000 last year, which we doubled by donations from our guests.”
The dinner is one of two events conducted each year to raise funds to offset operations costs for The Greenhouse Project, a public-private partnership that provides agricultural education for area students, while producing organic food that’s distributed to the community’s under served population, and about 10 percent of produce grown is used in Carson High School’s culinary arts program.
This year’s dinner takes place Monday, Nov. 9 at 5:30 p.m. and features six courses paired with your choice of local-crafted beer or wine pairings and deliciously prepared by Chef Abowd, and who’s joined for the third year by Chef Mark Estee, owner of Campo and Provisions, both in Reno and two Burger Me! locations in Truckee, Calif. Southern Wine and Spirits is sponsoring all the wine for the dinner.
The courses have yet to be finalized, but when they are, as occurs each year, they’re going to be the result of collaboration between chefs Abowd and Estee, featuring the best in organic, locally-grown meats and vegetables, including those grown by Glorious Garlic Farms.
“We are so blessed to have Mark’s support for the dinner and in the many other ways he gives his heart to The Greenhouse, and are so grateful he is again contributing his and his staff’s time, energy and talent to this undertaking,” Karen said.
Course sponsors for this year’s event include Barbara and Paul D’Anneo, Kilpatrick Bullentini Law Office, Abowd and Rose Financial Group, Nature’s Bakery, Carson City Toyota and Lone Mountain Veterinary Hospital. For their $1,120, sponsors receive two dinner tickets, receive acknowledgment on all support material and advertising, and recognition at the event.
“Our sponsor support allows us to defray the cost of the event, which is invaluable to its success,” Abowd said.
