Gov. Brian Sandoval left for China on Wednesday in the second trade mission he has taken there since assuming office.
The Republican governor is leading the two-week trip to Xi’an, Nanjiang, Shanghai and Beijing in his capacity as president of the Council of State Governments. Representatives from Alaska, Idaho, Minnesota, Kansas and Delaware also are going on the mission, which will focus on environmental sciences and the commercial use of technology.
“Through trade missions to China ... and the hosting of inbound Chinese delegations in Las Vegas, the state is working to further define what Nevada has to offer the international market,” said Steve Hill, director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development, who also is going on the trip.
Other Nevada attendees include Dale Erquiaga, the governor’s chief strategy officer; Stephen Wells, president of the Desert Research Institute; and three support staffers.
Sandoval said he’ll be discussing pollution, water use and potential commercial opportunities for DRI. He’s also planning to see the famous Terracotta Army sculpture collection before he returns to Nevada on Oct. 25.
Sandoval visited China on official business in 2012. The latest trip comes on the heels of a three-week trade mission he took to five European countries this summer.
