U.S. 95 will be temporarily closed overnight between Fallon and Interstate 80 Monday-Wednesday for a Union Pacific Railroad project to improve the crossing.

Union Pacific Railroad will replace the Trinity rail crossing, located on U.S. 95 south of the I-80 Trinity junction. The work will temporarily close the railroad crossing so that the concrete panels and road base that make up the crossing’s driving surface can be replaced for a smoother and safer ride.

U.S. 95 will be closed from the park and ride location north of Fallon to the Interstate 80 junction between 5 p.m.-2 a.m, with a detour available via alternate U.S. Highway 50 through Fernley. Between 2 a.m.-5 p.m., U.S. 95 will be open with slight travel delays as traffic is alternated by flagger through the construction zone. Motorists are asked to obey traffic controls and drive at posted construction speed limits, or slower as necessary for conditions.

here are approximately 300 rail crossings across the state. For roadway safety, each rail crossing is inspected through NDOT’s rail program every three years for driving surface, sight distance, signing, lighting and more.
