A court case supporting the repeal of a $1.1 billion Nevada tax package is being moved from Las Vegas to Carson City.
Clark County Judge Jerry Wiese approved the change of venue on Tuesday. Lawyer Matt Griffin, who’s defending the tax package, said he believes Nevada law is clear that cases related to ballot measures belong in Carson City.
The case was filed by anti-tax activist Chuck Muth and three Republican Assembly members who want to circulate a petition and place a question on the statewide ballot seeking to repeal the tax package.
Muth’s case asks a judge to declare the petition doesn’t violate Nevada’s single-subject rule for ballot measures, thus clearing the way for signature-gathering.
A Carson City judge recently dismissed a similar tax repeal petition Muth filed there.
