(Virginia Fire, continued from Thursday). From the Gold Hill News: The fate so long dreaded by the people of Virginia has come at last. Two-thirds of the city is now a mass of smoldering ruins, the principal business part of this city, consisting of nearly all the valuable buildings, was in the space of a few hours razed to the ground. The fire started at about 5:30 a.m. in the small lodging house of “Crazy Kate” Shay (continued on Saturday).

From Oregon papers the Appeal learns that Mr. and Mrs. Mills, late managers of the Orphan’s Home in this city, have applied for a like billed in the Orphan’s Home in Oregon. These people are not fit to have charge of an Orphans’ Home in any State of the Union.

100 years ago

Bounty laws in the state allow liberal payment by the state and counties for the killing of many animals. A trapper is entitled to collect $1.25 for a coyote or prairie wolf, $2.75 for a lynx or wildcat and $10 for a mountain lion.

The University of Nevada Homecoming will show its first signs of a return to normal with a Wolves frolic and pajamaboree rally during the celebration Nov. 1, 2 and 3.

The Carson City Jaycees are sponsoring a kids day with a host of games and activities for children from four to 14. Games will include a peanut race, spoon race, sack race, chariot race, leap frog, a three-legged race, egg race, foot race and wheelbarrow race.

In soccer, execution is the key and the Carson varsity was able to pull out all the stops Friday night to wreck the Sparks Railroaders 5-0 in a match that was pure perfection for Senator fans.
