Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., says a report issued by Georgetown University is proof the Affordable Care Act is working in Nevada

That report says Nevada, Colorado, West Virginia and Mississippi reported the largest increases in the number of children with health insurance — with Nevada the leader.

“A 35 percent increase in the number of insured children in just one year is remarkable,” Reid said. “It means more children have access to the care they need to stay healthy.”

He credited “the foresight of Gov. Brian Sandoval who supported the state’s Medicaid expansion option.”

“Gov. Sandoval’s courage stands in stark contrast to his fellow Republicans,” he said.

Reid pointed to the large number of GOP dominated state legislatures who have refused to expand Medicaid coverage to the needy.

“This means that people are dying as a result of this,” he said pointing to Alaska and Texas, which have the highest rates of uninsured children.

Sandoval, Reid said, “refused to let politics stand in the way of children’s health and, today, Nevada’s children are better for it.”

Reid said the Georgetown University report is evidence the ACA is working especially well in states that have opted in to the law.
