Thomson leads Fallon runners in season opener

In the first race of the season, Fallon senior standout Tristen Thomson made his mark at the Douglas Class Races on Friday in Minden.

Thomson took 15th in the 4,000-meter senior division with a time of 14 minutes, 23.8 seconds, which was also good enough for fifth among Northern Division I-A runners.

The mixed-bag event featured teams from Reno, Carson, Elko County and Lake Tahoe.

Gregory Gephart of McQueen won the race with a mark of 13:26.9, while Spring Creek’s Brady Dupea was the top DI-A finisher at 14:04.9. Fallon’s Michael Anderson also had a strong showing as he finished 51st with a time of 16:16.8.

As for the Lady Wave, sophomore Chloe Overlie had the best time for the Fallon girls team as she placed 16th with a time of 18:04.3, while newcomer and fellow sophomore Brynlee Shults had the second-fastest mark taking 27th in 18:51.9.

Seniors Jordyn Rogers placed 20th (19:07.8) and Diana Martinez took 23rd (19:15.9).

In the junior division, Fallon’s Ethan Smith led the way for the Greenwave with a 29th-place finish (15:35.9) followed by Terry White in 57th (17:06) and Nick Smith in 69th (18:51.6). The girls were led by Amanda Pursley in 49th (21:06.8) and Diana Enriquez in 59th (21.46.9).

As for the sophomores, Fallon’s Kapili Gleason had a solid time of 16:13.3 to place 25th, while Isaiah Williams took 32nd in 16:28.1 followed by Dawson Frost in 78th (19:04.5). Following Overlie and Shults, meanwhile, were Shelby Hickox in 34th (19.37.8) and Jenne Anderson in 49th (21:13.1).

As for the freshmen, Justin Cathey perhaps had the best performance running the course in 16:19.9 to place 16th. He was followed by Trae Thomson in 34th (17:27.3) and Jess Gantt in 54th (18:56.1). The Lady Wave did not have a freshman runner.

Fallon’s next race is Friday at the Nevada Twilight.
