The power of doubles led the Fallon boys tennis team to an opening 10-8 win over North Tahoe on Tuesday at the Edward Aricinega Complex.
Myles Getto and Eric Sabatino, the Greenwave’s No. 1 duo, dropped just one game in three matches as the pair anchored Fallon’s victory.
“I think we did pretty good for our first time out,” Fallon coach Jesse Nuckolls said. “Our doubles teams were excellent and didn’t lose a single match.”
In addition, the No. 2 squad of Blake Malkovich and Josh Mikulak also went 3-0 including rallying to beat Emma Appleton and Kacy Wright, 6-4. Malkovich and Mikulak ended the day with a 6-2 win over Ronnie Goldstone and Luke Taylor.
Fallon’s No. 3 pairing of Dylan Kubeny and Trent Nuckolls, meanwhile, were also perfect on the day dropping just five games in their three matches.
However, No. 1 singles player Wei Deng secured the biggest win of the match for Fallon. He secured a 6-4 win over Murphy Scott to lock up the win.
“Wei won the very last one (match), so we got the win,” Jesse Nuckolls said. “We have a lot of players outs here who have never played before. Four of our starters had never played a match, so I was happy with the results.”
As for the rest of Fallon’s singles player, meanwhile, it was a rough day.
North Tahoe went 8-1 in those matches led by Rudi Arnston, whoe went 3-0 with wins over Deng (6-4), Thomas Jamieson (6-2) and Kyle Reed-Mason (6-1).
Mason Whittels also made it through his three matches unscathed, losing just three games. Scott added a pair of wins over Jamieson in a tiebreaker 6-6 (7-3) and Ryan Lords (6-0).
Reed-Mason was 0-2 for Fallon, Ryan Lords 0-1 and Jamieson went 0-3 in singles action for Fallon.
“There were a lot of nerves for our singles guys,” Nuckolls said. “They struggled a little bit.”
North Tahoe, meanwhile, struggled to field a full team before the match and folded its girls team — Appleton and Wright — into the boys team.
The Greenwave hosted Incline on Thursday, but results were not available.
