Carson City’s Sage Donnelly is a world champion.

Donnelly, 15, had dominated the competition all week and finished off the week with another dominating performance at the 2015 International Canoe Federation Freestyle Kayak World Championships Saturday in Ottowa River, Canada.

Donnelly won the gold medal in the canoe slalom KI Junior Women’s division. Donnelly set a personal high score of 588 points to win the title in Saturday’s finals, easily outdistancing Team USA teammate Darby McAdams, who took second with 203.33 points.

“Jr. Women’s World Champion!” Donnelly posted on her Facebook page. “Huge thank you to everyone who has supported and helped me get to this point! I’ve had an amazing time here, including getting a new personal high score of 588 and scoring my first bluntnasty!! Also a big thanks to Wilderness Tours and everyone who helped with the event.”

Donnelly referred to her first bluntnasty, which is when a paddler is essentially able to do a 180 while in the water.
