A man was arrested for felony DUI after an accident in which a woman was critically injured Sunday on State Route 339, the Nevada Highway Patrol reported.

At about 11 a.m., troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to a single vehicle crash that occurred on State Route 339 at approximately mile post 9 in Lyon County.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a white Crown Victoria driven by 45-year-old Pete Gonzales of Yerington was traveling southbound on State Route 339. The vehicle had two passengers; Edward Wedlake and Edith Nance both of Yerington. For unknown reasons, Gonzales allowed the vehicle to travel left, crossing over the centerline and northbound travel lane before entering the northbound dirt shoulder. The vehicle struck rocks and boulders on the northbound shoulder before striking a decorative arch at a residence. Gonzales and Wedlake were wearing seatbelts. Nance wasn’t and was ejected from the vehicle. Nance was transported to a Reno Hospital by Care Flight where she remained in critical condition.

Impairment is suspected as a contributing factor in the crash.

Gonzales was arrested and taken to the Lyon County Jail where he was booked on suspicion of felony DUI crash resulting in injuries, driving left of center, open container and driving without a valid driver’s license.
