The Fallon cross country team made a good showing at the Twilight Classic on Sept. 4 at Shadow Mountain.
Tristen Thomson ran in the large school varsity division and shaved 15 seconds off his time in the 4000 meters in a time of 14 minutes, 13 seconds and medaling 19th out of 120 runners. In the small school varsity division, Brynlee Shults medaled with 11th place with a time of 18:24; Jordyn Rogers medaled with a 17th place finish and a time of 19:10; and Diana Martinez medaled with a 19th place finish and a time of 19:24. Other good performances included Chole Overlie finishing 58th out of 96 girls in the varsity large school division with a time of 18:14. The event had more than 900 athletes from 35 high schools along with five universities, including the University of Nevada and UCLA.
To begin the season, Fallon and Fernley participated in a 26-mile relay, marking the first time for Fallon to host this event. The winning time by a Fallon team was 3:12. Fernley finished it in 3:16.45. The event raised over $800 and will become an annual event for both schools. The event was sponsored by the city of Fallon, Churchill County Parks and Rec, ButtsUp Duck and Cyrq Energy Soda Lake Geothermal Plant.
