A Reno man was arrested Monday morning in Storey County on a charge of open murder of a Reno teenager.
Authorities say at 4 a.m., Storey County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a possible intoxicated driver coming into Virginia City, but when officers tried to stop the vehicle the driver, identified as 19-year-old Elijah Henderson of Reno, allegedly crashed the vehicle on Six-Mile Canyon Road. Henderson was arrested and taken into custody.
Inside the car, the body of a 17-year-old female from Reno was found in the vehicle. Evidence at the scene led detectives to believe the female didn’t die from the crash. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted by the Washoe County Medical Examiner.
The Nevada Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol and Investigation Division were called in to investigate the death and the crash. Storey County hasn’t been investigating because one of the deputies was involved in the pursuit of the vehicle at the time the crash occurred.
Henderson was arrested and booked into Storey County Jail on charges of open murder, eluding an officer and contributing to a minor. Bail was set at $120,000.
