The city cemetery. George Chedic and George Gibson presented Carson with four acres of ground for a cemetery. Gravestones already whiten that spot of earth, but there is no fence erected to protect the graves from wandering animals. Can’t our citizens devise some means to protect graves from these unpleasant intrusions?

130 Years Ago

Pacific coast items. Black-leg and glanders are reported in Shasta County. Nogales, A.T., is overrun with refugees from the yellow fever infected ports of Mexico.

110 Years Ago

Autos and horses. George Theile received injuries at the flat opposite the Morgan Mill above Empire. H. A. Lemmon was coming toward Carson City with his automobile, and Thiele was driving an 8-horse team loaded with lumber. When the two were 100 yards apart, Theile jumped down from the seat and ran to hold the leaders of his team, a horse stepped on his foot, throwing him to the ground, and he was trampled on, breaking his ribs. He was brought to his home in this city where he is resting well.

50 Years Ago

Four Wheel Warriors. The Four Wheel Warriors will meet at the Washoe Market and go to the vicinity of the top of Mt. Rose. Plans are for a picnic in a meadow near the summit, and then the day will be given over to a “wood treasure hunt.”

20 Years Ago

Thiokol. Fifty workers will lose jobs as Omnesco, a subsidiary of Thiokol, will close its doors as workers put the finishing touches on the final Sidewinder missile motor casings manufactured at the location.
