The Carson City Visitors Bureau will hand out free dog tags to the participants of Sunday's CASI Wag-n-Walk. The tags, created in partnership with Carson High School, are also available for sale at the Visitors Bureau gift shop, 716 N. Carson St.
Carson City is going to the dogs this weekend.
“We’re showcasing that Carson City is a dog-friendly community,” said Lisa Schuette, president of the Carson Animal Services Initiative, which is raising money for a new and improved animal shelter.
Coinciding with Bonanza Kennel Club’s annual American Kennel Club Dog Show at Fuji Park today and Sunday, CASI is organizing a weekend of activities for the pups.
The seventh annual Pooch Plunge will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. today at the outdoor pool of the Carson City Aquatic Facility.
“We will have balls and toys and ramps,” she said. “It’s just a really fun day.”
Cost is $10 for the first dog and $5 for additional dogs. Proceeds will go to CASI.
“It’s super popular,” she said. “It is just so enjoyable. Some dogs do laps, some jump, some just sit on the side and bark. It’s a great event.”
Sunday will feature a Wag-n-Walk, beginning with free coffee or mimosas 9-9:30 a.m. at Adele’s.
Everlasting Footprints Photography will have a photo booth, L.A. Bakery will have cookies and CASI will have a table to share information about upcoming events
It will be followed by a walk through historic downtown Carson City, with a stop at the Carson City Visitors Bureau, where free dog tags will be handed out.
The dog tags and key chains, created by Carson High School students, will be free Sunday then for sale for $4 at the bureau.
“Come out and enjoy the day with your dog,” Schuette said. “We are celebrating Carson being a critter friendly place to live and visit.”
