Carson City has a new planning manager.
Hope Sullivan joins the city from Douglas County where she was planning manager for the past two years.
She has nearly 20 years experience as a municipal planner and also has worked in the private sector in construction and property management.
Sullivan is responsible for managing, coordinating, and directing the staff and operations at the city’s permit center, as well as providing technical support to the Board of Supervisors, Planning Commission and the Historic Resources Commission on development projects and policy.
She has a master’s in regional planning from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.
Sullivan replaces Susan Dorr Pansky, Carson City manager for the past three years.
Pansky is moving into a new part-time position as special projects manager, which she said allows her to spend more time with her young children.
Pansky will be working on projects such as streamlining the special event application process, reviewing applications for the new façade improvement program, modifying the General Industrial zoning district surrounding the Carson City Airport and updating the Land Division, Zoning, Business License and Liquor License codes as necessary.
Lee Plemel, community development director, said the new position would help the city handle a recent increase in development projects as well as identify opportunities for streamlining and improving procedures.
