Gold Hill Hotel hosting musician James Lee Reeves

Musician and comedian James Lee Reeves of the Virginia City Highlands saw Elvis Presley on TV and, at the age of 10, decided to become an entertainer.

He settled in Southern California, earned a bachelor’s in history and then pursued his love of music, acting and song writing.

Reeves is bringing his show, Songs About Nevada Written in Nevada Interspersed with Bad Marital Advice, to the Gold Hill Hotel at 7:30 p.m. today.

The performer fronted a number of bands in California in the 1970s. He began writing songs about Nevada and released the album “I’ll Take Nevada.”

Reeves also landed a role in an episode of the TV show “Kung Fu” starring David Carradine. He was cast as a character named Fearless in the short-lived TV series titled “Nichols,” starring James Garner.

Reeves’s show combines music with comedy. It features characters such as Milo Tremley, a hayseed, unsophisticated type who pokes fun at low-life behavior. Professor Milo-”Marriage Therapist” dispenses bad marital advice drawing from his experiences of past failed marriages.

The cost is $25 for the dinner and performance and $10 for the performance only. Dinner is from 4 to 8 p.m. in the hotel’s Crown Point Restaurant.

The Gold Hill Hotel, the oldest hotel in Nevada, and its renowned Crown Point Restaurant, are at 1540 Main Street, Gold Hill, just one mile south of Virginia City on SR 342.

The hotel hosts presentations on Thursday evenings. Upcoming appearances include: Nevada Aviation History by Bill Sjovangen on April 21; Irish Archaeological Dig by Ken Beaton on April 28; and Premier of Eight New Videos on Virginia City by Virginia City Tourism Director Deny Dotson on May 5.
