Carson City Board of Supervisors to discuss Silver Oak development on Thursday

New homes for Silver Oak are on the agenda for the Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting Thursday.

The board will consider a request from Silver Oak Development LLP to modify its planned unit development in order to add 31 houses.

The lots, ranging in size from 5,200 to 10,371 square feet, are planned for a 7.99-acre parcel on Oak Ridge Drive adjacent to John Mankins Park.

The supervisors also will vote whether to accept and approve a $2,574,000 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to reconstruct the apron ramp area on the north side of the Carson City Airport.

The grant is being processed by the FAA, which told the airport authority it was required to accept it within 10 days of the offer.

At its meeting in March, the Carson City Airport Authority said the total north apron project cost is $2.67 million.

A first reading of an ordinance to bump up the transient occupancy tax by 1 percent is also on the agenda.

The tax increase, if approved after a second reading, will be used to hire an Arts and Culture Coordinator and cover operational costs of the new Carson City Arts and Culture Master Plan as well as the Carson City Visitors Bureau’s work to attract more cultural tourism.

The tax would sunset after five years.

The arts and culture master plan establishes an arts and culture agency to coordinate programming, services, research and grants. It was approved by the supervisors in March.

The board might appoint members to the committees to write arguments for and against the motor vehicle fuel tax indexing question on the ballot this November.

But, last week at the Regional Transportation Commission meeting the commission was told no one had yet applied to be on the committees.

The supervisors will consider the 2017 and 2018 fiscal year budgets to receive reimbursement from the State of Nevada for its State Child Support Enforcement Program.

The program is based on an agreement between the state, the city and the First Judicial District Court and Storey County to appoint court masters to hold child support hearings.

The city’s general fund is reimbursed by the state. The budgets are $28,904 and $29,421 for 2017 and 2018, respectively.

The board will vote whether to give its stamp of approval for the Open Space Advisory Committee to apply for a grant to the Bureau of Land Management’s Southern Nevada Public Land Management Act Program.

The grant would be used to build safe crossings connecting the Carson River Trail System from Morgan Mill Preserve Open Space to the Prison Hill Recreation Area.

Several reports are also up for board approval: the Management Plan for Carson City Open Space and Parks in the Carson River Area, and the Cultural Commission’s 2015/16 annual report and 2016/17 work plan.

The board meets Thursday in the Sierra Room of the Carson City Community Center starting at 8:30 a.m.
