Nevada State Museum in Carson City hosting author Michael Green April 28

Luck and politics will play into a talk about Nevada history from the earliest explorers to mining, tourism and economic diversification by Las Vegas author Michael Green on Thursday, April 28 at the Nevada State Museum, 600 N. Carson St.

With an eye toward exploitation of the land and natural resources, political forces and corruption, Green looks at citizens’ often tumultuous relationship with the federal government. In his book, “Nevada: A History of the Silver State,” published by The University of Nevada Press in 2015, the author also explores the role luck plays, especially regarding mining and gambling.

Green is an associate professor of history at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, specializing in 19th-century politics and the American West. He is the author of several books, including “Las Vegas: A Centennial History.”

The program is part of the museum’s France Humphrey Lecture Series and begins at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $8 for adults; free for museum members, and ages 17 and younger.
