The Brewery Arts Center is hosting a Stand-Up Comedy Showcase at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center Maizie Jesse Harris Black Box Theatre. The BAC is located at 449 W. King St. Tickets are only $5 at the door with open seating and a cash bar. For more information, contact Nick Josten at 775-450-4772.

Josten is hosting the showcase and the open mic. He’s a regular opener at The Pioneer Underground in Reno and has performed theatre with the BAC dating back to his high school days at CHS. John Ager is headlining the show, bringing decades of stand-up experience to the BAC stage. Ager pulls from his extensive experience in the military and law enforcement to bring hilarious anecdotes to life. Jose Spadoni brings her long experience from the LA comedy scene to our Nevada doors. Rounding out the bill is Bryant Tarpley, who’s touring the western states as a wandering comedic troubadour extraordinaire.

Once the showcase concludes, it will be a comedy open mic. Everyone gets 5 minutes of stage time, and names are drawn at random. If you’ve always wanted to try stand-up comedy, now’s your chance!

The Art of Tarot at the Brewery Arts Center

“The Art of Reading Tarot” will take place at 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday nights from Aug. 24-Sept. 21 at the Brewery Arts Center, 449 W King St.

Learn the images, symbols, and meanings of the tarot in this unique way of learning to read the cards. You will learn to explore the images as powerfully meaningful art in a way that speaks to you as an individual. Local artist and tarot reader Deana Hoover is offering this beginning to intermediate level class for anyone who has ever wanted to learn to read the cards for themselves or for others. You will learn how to interpret the images, tap into your own intuition, and to read accurately and ethically while you build confidence and skill.

Students need a Rider-Waite tarot deck. Bring your own deck or buy one from the instructor for $20. Tuition is $110 for BAC members and $120 for non-members.
