The Apple Maps car was seen around Carson City on Friday morning.
According to Apple’s website the vehicles are driving around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps.
“Some of this data will be published in future Apple Maps updates,” Apple says.
The car will likely be seen a lot throughout the month. Apple reports the car will be seen around Carson City, Douglas County, Storey County and Washoe County through Aug. 28. Apple says the car started driving in the region on July 18. According to a caller and a Nevada Appeal sighting, the car was driving from the north to the south.
Apple says, “We are committed to protecting your privacy while collecting this data. For example, we will blur faces and license plates on collected images prior to publication.” For more information you can go to https://maps.apple.com/vehicles/
Apple hasn’t announced what it plans to do with the data, but technology media outlets report Apple plans to institute a “street view” aspect to its maps, much like Google offers.
