There’s still time to help local children get the items they need to succeed in school. For more than 10 years, Carson City Soroptimist has gathered hundreds of new backpacks, filling each with school and hygiene supplies. The filled backpacks are given to local elementary, middle, and high schools to distribute as needed. People looking to give back to our community can help by donating new backpacks, supplies, or money to buy missing items.
The deadline for this year’s donation drive is Friday, Aug. 12. The club will be filling and delivering backpacks to school nurses Tuesday, Aug. 16.
In Carson City, donations may be dropped off at Platinum Salon & Spa, 716 N. Carson St.; with Jennifer Rust at Edward Jones Investments, 412 E. Musser St., Suite 1; at Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota-Scion, 2590 S. Carson St.; Marilyn Lewis State Farm Insurance, 321 W. Winnie Lane, Suite 106; or RCM Realty Group, 503 N. Nevada St.
Items especially needed this year are backpacks, three ring binders and 24-color packs of crayons. Second priority are pencil boxes/pouches, rulers, and glue sticks. Third tier needs are college-ruled paper, erasers, pencil-top erasers, wide-ruled paper, Pee-Chee folders, pens, and pencils. Thanks to early donations, Carson City Soroptimist has all the hygiene supplies covered. Monetary donations are welcome too. Donate via PayPal at www.sicarsoncity.org, or mail checks to SICC, PO Box 794, Carson City NV 89702.
