Minden pilot, 74, dies in glider crash in Pinenut Mountains

A 74-year-old Minden resident has been identified as the pilot killed in a glider crash in the Pine Nut Mountains eight miles east of Minden-Tahoe Airport.

Joseph N. Lowenhardt was found with the wreckage of an AMS Carat Model A Powered Glider at about 2:50 p.m.

Minden-Tahoe Airport Manager said Lowenhardt was a recent tenant, who moved here from Hawaii.

The glider was found by the Nevada Civil Air Patrol assisted by the U.S. Air Force.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office along with the East Fork Fire Protection District located the crash.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the federal aviation officials.

The crash scene is located near a set of power lines feeding Carson Valley.
