The work goes on: We dropped in at the office of the Mint Commissioners yesterday, and our old-time friend and fellow citizen George E. Bracket, knowing of our teetotal proclivities, led us straightaway to a large bucket of water with an iceberg in it and verily we took a drink with him, and then proceeded to take a look at the work upon the Mint building. Superintendent Curry is putting the thing through in good shape and work goes bravely on.

J. D. R. Corbett of Virginia, while running in the sack race at the picnic yesterday, fell upon his chest and it is feared was injured internally. He was taken from the grounds in a carriage.

100 years ago

Caught 264 coyotes: For the past month coyotes have been coming down from the hills to the hay fields of the river valleys to catch mice, bringing their pups with them. As a result hunting and trapping these animals have been good. Messrs. Sans and Piper, of the government biological survey, state that during the past month 29 government trappers have caught 264 coyotes in Humboldt County. Not one was infected with rabies (Silver State).

70 years ago

A (Dutch) Berning, director of the Carson City volunteer band, announced today there would be another concert Friday night on the Capitol Grounds. Originally it was planned to have a concert twice a month, but a widespread and favorable response prompted the unit leader to bring his band out once a week.

50 years ago

(Photo caption) Fender benders are to be seen each Saturday night at the Tahoe-Carson Speedway south of the city. This scene is typical of the clearing away routine after some of the action of the oval. Tom Volk, promoter, promises plenty of thrills and fender crunching.

30 years ago

Jockey International, Inc., will close its Carson City plant sometime in January, the Nevada Appeal learned today. Eight employees will be laid off and two transferred to corporate headquarters.
