James Alan Reinhardt

James Alan Reinhardt passed away peacefully at home from cancer on August 14, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born March 19, 1950 in Reno NV, and made Carson City his home.

With a degree in Agriculture from UNR (that he managed while simultaneously riding bulls for the University Rodeo team, being a ski patrol member, and apparently a somewhat notorious member of SAE fraternity), he put his skills to work at the local List Ranch before becoming a crew supervisor and fire protection officer with NDF for 14 years. Jim then became Fire Chief for East Fork Fire and Paramedic District and spent many summers fighting wild land fires across the country on Type I teams and the Sierra Front teams. He not only pursued his work with passion, but a heartfelt obligation to protecting Nevada’s wildlands and open spaces.

A civic minded activist, Jim was involved in a variety of organizations including President of Back Country Horseman and a member of the Washoe Valley Volunteer Fire Dept. Seeing a need to coordinate various fire fighting agencies, he was a founding member of the Sierra Front Wildland Fire Cooperaters, member of Lake Tahoe Regional Fire Chiefs Assoc., Nevada Fire Chiefs Assoc. and Nevada State Fire Fighters Assoc. In post retirement, Jim participated as a subject matter expert in the development of Nevada’s first comprehensive wild land assessment.

But most of all, Jim enjoyed his family and close circle of friends whether it was fishing in Alaska, horse back riding, or working on his reputed and intricately detailed model train layout with a close knit circle of cohorts.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Karen Louise (Bopp) Reinhardt, children Joshua Reinhardt, Courtney Long, Kevin (Brooke) Rohrbough, and three grandchildren whom he adored: Alexis and Maddox Long, and Clayton Rohrbough; brothers Joe (Carolyn), Jerry (Allison) and Jack; 6 nephews and 2 nieces.

A celebration of life will be held October 2nd, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Dangberg Home Ranch, in Minden Nevada. If you have a favorite anecdote or memory of Jim, the family requests you bring it in written form for the family’s memory book.
