Crews were at Washoe Lake this week filming the short Western film, “Destiny” — on the same spot where John Wayne took a carriage ride in, “The Shootist.”
“It was significant to us all to be in the same spot as one of our Western heroes,” said Harold Roy Miller of Stagecoach.
Miller played a posse member in the cast — along with local cowboy poet Greg Antonucci — and wrote in to the Nevada Appeal to tell about his experience.
“Movie director John Pocino put together quite an impressive cast,” he said.
The leading roles are played by Christian Boeying, who makes his getaway after robbing a bank, and Jessica Morris as his girlfriend who accompanies him on the run.
The duo are chased by a posse with Greg Grant as a marshal with his own agenda. Grant stars in the Wild West Shoot Out Show up in Virginia City.
The movie was based on a poem written by Johnny Ray Gibbs called “The Cowboy and Brown Eyed Saloon Girl.”
Miller said he had a great experience making the film.
“The short movie turned out very well due to the professionalism of the actors,” Miller said. “The producer Jessie Soss had everything under control and the cast worked and had fun at the same time. Other than a few posse members taking a spill off their horses (we won’t mention any names), all went off without a hitch.
“It was an interesting experience. And we hope it becomes a future feature film. What a stellar day! Hope it’s our destiny to see it on the big screen.”
I hope it makes it to the silver screen too. I’d love to see the cast in action, especially the parts filmed here in the area.
