Local flooding reported in Carson City

Carson City experienced localized flooding from the rain storm. Sandbags are currently available at 3505 Butti Way in the Public Works corporate yard. Residents are urged to bring their own shovel.

A flood watch has been extended to 4:45 p.m. tonight across the Sierra Front.

The rain fall total in Carson City was about 2 inches, pushing the total rain fall amount to more than 10 inches this year.

As of 12:30 p.m. more than 2 inches of rain was recorded north of Genoa.

Heavy rain is expected to continue, with snow levels near 8,000 feet, though they are reported to be lowering in places around the Tahoe Basin. Rainfall is expected to subside after 4 p.m.

Road controls on mountain highways are beginning to go into place as snow levels drop.

Chains or snow tires are required over Daggett Summit on Kingsbury Grade and on Highway 28 just north of Spooner Junction, according to the Nevada Department of Transportation.

Stateline reported receiving 6.22 inches of precipitation in six hours, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavenly Valley telemetry reported 6 inches of snow fell since 7 a.m.

RENO, Nev. — Authorities have suspended a search for a skier reportedly caught in an avalanche near Lake Tahoe in western Nevada.

Mount Rose Ski Tahoe spokesman Mike Pierce says one skier saw another get caught in an avalanche Saturday morning in a closed area of the resort.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office says search crews were recalled Saturday afternoon due to a continued avalanche threat.

Meanwhile, the National Weather Service issued a floor warning until early Saturday evening for southern Washoe County and western Carson County due to rainfall amounts of 3.5 to 4.5 inches.

News reports showed full creeks and flooded fields in Washoe County, and the weather service says flooding may occur further south near creeks and drainage ditches on Carson City’s west side.
