Peggy Ruth Doughty

Peggy Ruth Doughty went to the Lord the night of Thursday, December 1st, 2016.

A long-time resident of Fallon, she was born May 21st, 1926 in Dyer County, Tennessee. She enjoyed a nice long life of 90 years filled with children, grandchildren, friends, Church, career and travel.

In her marriage to a Navy chief petty officer, and her job with the federal government, Peggy got to indulge her zeal for travel and saw many parts of the world, particularly the Western U.S. and Canada, Hawaii, the South Pacific, and much of Asia, including Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and the Philippines.

She worked, raised her six children, retired and lived in Fallon for most of the 50 years before her health began failing, and she eventually moved in with daughter Karen in Riverside.

She was the Comptroller at NAS Fallon before retiring in 1995, but Peggy considered her children her proudest accomplishment and her family and 13 grandchildren her highest calling. She also went bowling whenever she could and was a member of many league teams at Oasis Bowl.

Peggy was a devout Christian and a member of the Fallon First Southern Baptist Church for many years, then joined the Church of the Nazarene in her later years, the ministry of the everend Iral Dickey.

She is survived by her brother, the Reverend Tommy Harrell (wife Sue) of Baton Rouge, LA; 5 of her 6 children: Michael L. Doughty (wife Barbara Doughty), of Sacramento; Karen Doughty-Stevenson (husband Larry Stevenson), Riverside, CA; Susan Doughty-VanKuren, Carmichael, CA; Melvin T. Doughty (wife Stephanie), Cheyenne, WY; and Tom E. Doughty (wife Emily) of Reno. Her fourth child, C.E. “Gene” Doughty, Jr., died July 6th, 2012 in Reno. Peggy is also survived by 13

grandchildren: Robert, Kristen, Michelle, Rachel Doughty; Daniel Van Kuren and Shannon Van Kuren; Matthew Doughty and Allison Doughty; Gered Doughty and Irene Doughty; Kevin, Melanie, and Megan Doughty; step-granddaughter Kayla….. and 4 great-grandchildren.

Peggy will forever be remembered as a caring mother who would do anything for her children.

She will be deeply missed.

Memorial services will be this Saturday, December 17th, 11:00 AM at the Smith Family Funeral Home.
