Nov 01, 1934 - Dec 09, 2016

Robert Edmund Fitz, 82, left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father on December 9, 2016.

Robert took pride in being a native Nevadan. He was born and raised in Fallon, and served in the US Army stationed in Alaska. Robert was recently honored by participation in a national Honor Flight to Washington DC.

Following his military service, Robert attended UNR and was then employed by Nevada Bell. He also became a private pilot enjoying many hours flying over Nevada in his single-engine airplane.

After retirement from the telephone company, Robert opened a general contracting business, Fitz2AT Construction. Many homes in Carson City, Reno and Genoa stand as a memorial to his beautiful work.

After his second retirement, Robert was happiest out hunting and fishing. He took many out-of-the-country trips to pursue this pleasure. His travels took him to Costa Rica, Brazil, South Africa, Alaska and Cabo San Lucas, along with hours spent along northern Nevada and southern Idaho rivers and streams. In October, he took his last trip with buddies he had hunted and fished with for over 50 years.

The family wishes to extend their thanks to his niece, Susan and to the many friends who offered their support through chemotherapy and hospitalizations.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karen Fitz and by his parents Catherine Lerch Fitz and Harold Edmund Fitz.

Robert is survived by his wife of 38 years, Laura, his daughter Jeanette Maiss (Eric), step-children Dana Finnan, Jacque Roark, Jon Culbertson (Rosee) and grandchildren Jordan and Jared Page, Steven and Zachary Roark and Grant

Culbertson. His sister, Ruth Pintar, also survives him as do nieces and nephews Susan Pintar, Nancy Yamamoto, Ann Erwin, Michael Pintar and Mary Mills.

Robert was generous and loving and will be deeply missed by those who loved him.

No formal public services are being held.

Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life at Robert and Laura’s home in Carson City on Friday, December, 16 from 1-3pm. Please bring your smiles and stories about our beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

The family requests no flowers. Memorials in his honor may be sent to Honor Flight at www.honorflightnv.or or Lexie’s Gift (Facebook).
