SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — South Tahoe outscored Dayton 17-4 in the first quarter en route to an easy 81-50 victory in a 3A boys basketball game Tuesday night.
Dayton turned the ball over 12 times in the first half and 22 times overall.
“We’ve got to protect the ball and come out faster,” said Kevin Ply, Dayton assistant coach. “If we can protect the ball better, we’ll be in the game.”
Dayton went 16-for-27 from the field, but the turnovers were too much to overcome.
JJ Ply led the scoring with 20 points, Trevor Burrows added 15 and Weston Hill scored six. Ply blocked four shots and pulled down six rebounds. Burrows pulled down seven rebounds.
Carson seeks first win
The Senators, 0-4 overall and 0-1 in league visit Reed Thursday at 7 p.m. in a 4A crossover game.
Jayden DeJoseph and Geraet Rauh will be eligible to play for the first time this year after serving a suspension for violating team rules.
The game will tip at 7 p.m.

Vikings cruise to win
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — South Tahoe outscored Dayton in every quarter en route to a 55-20 win Tuesday night in a 3A game.
The Dust Devils turned the ball over 34 times and went 7-for-48 from the floor.
Elora Neep led Dayton with six points while Kristina Mason added four points and eight rebounds.
“We just had too many turnovers from the start and let them run us over,” coach Kelly Frantz said. “We have to come out strong, but smart.”
Carson on road
The Senators, fresh off a win over Pyramid Lake, travel to Sparks to take on perennial powerhouse Reed in a 4A game on Thursday.
Tip-off is set for 5:15 p.m.

Vikings rout Dayton
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — Despite seven points apiece by Tamia Powell and Marisa Hein, the Dust Devils dropped a 44-20 decision to South Tahoe Tuesday night.
Dayton returns to action Friday at Fernley.
