FRESNO, Calif. – A couple of streaks ended Saturday afternoon at the SaveMart Center.
The first was Nevada’s season-best seven-game win streak (77-76 loss), the best in the Eric Musselman era, and the second was Fresno State having more free-throw attempts than Nevada.
Nevada came into the game leading the Mountain West and ranked fourth in the NCAA with 384 total.
Fresno State went to the line 27 times compared to just 13 for the Wolf Pack
“The first time all year we haven’t been able to do that,” Musselman said. “Our whole game plan was to get to the foul line. I’m just shocked.”
STAYING PERFECT
Marcus Marshall scored 26 and stretched his double-figure scoring streak to 15 games.
Marshall eclipsed the 20-point mark for the ninth time this season. He has scored 76 points in his last three games.
BLOCK PARTY
Cameron Oliver blocked three shots, the second moving him past Edgar Jones and into third place on Nevada’s all-time list. Oliver has 144. He is 48 behind the legendary Nick Fazekas.
It was the 10th time this season 31st time in his career that he had three or more blocks in the game.
FENNER GETS THE NOD
With Josh Hall sidelined with a concussion, senior D.J. Fenner got his second start of the season.
Fenner played two minutes, was called for walking and came out of the game in favor of freshman Devearl Ramsey.
Fenner did contribute 18 points and four rebounds. He moved up two spots on the all-time Nevada scoring list, passing Faron Hand (1034) and Marvin Buckley (1039). Fenner has 1,047 career points.
PERFECT AT THE STRIPE
Jordan Caroline, who has struggled at the line this year, was a perfect 4-for-4, giving him 9-for-12 in his last two games. It was the first time this year he was perfect at the line.
WHERE ARE THE FANS?
The SaveMart Center looked like a deserted warehouse. Blame it on the school being on break or it being New Year’s Eve.
Fresno, despite a winning record, has drawn over 7000 just once this year.
You could hear a pin drop most of the night, but the noise picked up in the second half. The stat sheet said there were 6,043 fans, but it didn’t look like it.
