Personal. We had the pleasure yesterday of meeting that enterprising and energetic pioneer of the Pacific Coast, Mr. John C. Fall. Mr. Fall has just returned from the Atlantic states and will proceed at once to Humboldt County where he has large interests in the mines and mills. Glad to see him looking so well.

130 years ago

Adolph Sutro. A few days ago the Appeal ventured upon a few commentators remarks about Adolph Sutro, in connection with the public enterprises he is identified with in San Francisco, whereupon the Salt Lake Tribune rears up and dances madly upon Sutro’s record. Does the Tribune suppose that a man is going to spend the best years of his life pearling a mountain with one of the grandest tunnels in the world and did it all for glory? (Continued on Wednesday.)

100 years ago

V&T doing Herculean work. The storm now in progress has not interfered with the Virginia and Truckee railroad so far. Three engines with the big snow plow left Reno this morning at 8:15, making it to Carson by 9:30 and shortly thereafter left to Mound House to open up the road to that place.

Emmett W. Woods, 26, was appointed to the city police department today and will go on duty as a night officer. Woods will go on duty with regular night officer Howard Hoffman.

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, the buckskin couple who rode blissfully together into many a sunset, are enjoying happy trails again on a new cable TV show.

Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
