Bruce Yankton

Bruce Yankton, born September 27, 1942 in North Dakota, passed away January 24, 2016 in Carson City, Nevada after a lifetime of dedication to Lake Tahoe and surrounding areas. Bruce, a proud man of his Sioux Indian heritage, came from a unique lineage as his father was a full-blooded Sioux Indian and one of the first commissioned Indian officers in the U.S. Army Air Corps. His great-grandfather, Red Horse, was at Custer’s Last Stand. His California/Nevada story started at two years of age when his family moved to Northern Nevada. He was the last 7th grader in the one room schoolhouse in Genoa. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1960. Bruce attended Cal Poly (California) and returned to Lake Tahoe where he started his own successful business as head of Yankton Excavating Inc. from 1967 to 2014. Upon retirement moved to Carson City. His life’s love was work, family, and hunting. He and his wife, Alice, who married in 1999, between them, have seven children, 16 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. His wife Alice, three sons, Kevin, Dakotah, and Andrew and two brothers, Dennis Bright and Garry Bright, as well as numerous family members, survive him. Service will be held February 6, 2016, 6:00 pm at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 3000 Lompa Lane, Carson City, NV.
