The Nevada men’s basketball team is picking up speed toward the Mountain West after beating Utah State (11-9, 3-6MW) 89-84 this weekend in Logan, Utah.
The Wolf Pack is now 13-8 and 5-4 MW with their next game at Colorado State (12-9, 4-4 MW), Saturday at 1 p.m. PT.
This victory marks the Wolf Pack’s fourth win in Utah State territory in 22 games since their 78-71 victory in 2012 in the Western Athletic Conference, and the Pack’s numbers on the road are showing signs of evening out at 4-6, particularly compared to last season’s 2-11 away record.
The victory was also the 11th time Nevada put four or more players in double figures with five players scoring in double figures. 89 points is the high for the Pack in MW play this season.
Freshman Cameron Oliver posted his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, the sixth time this season Oliver posted a game high in rebounds and the ninth time he led the team in rebounds.
Oliver leads the Mountain West campaign in blocking and has a block in 20-of-21 games this season.
Marqueze Coleman was second in points scored for Nevada with 20 points, and has 10 games this season of 20 or more points. This was Coleman’s sixth MW game in MW scoring 20 or more points, however, with 15 in the second half alone.
At 960 career points in the season thus far, Coleman has scored 68 percent of his points after halftime, 256-of-375.
D.J. Fenner’s 21 points led the team and commended his third time topping the team in scoring this season and his third highest scoring game at Nevada, with 16 of his points in the second half.
Eric Cooper, Jr. has scored in double figures in the last four road games and contributed 13 points against Utah, split more evenly than most other players between the halves.
