One man was killed Thursday night after the vehicle he was in crashed while attempting to flee Carson City Sheriff’s deputies.
At 7:48 p.m., deputies received reports of a hit and run accident near Brown Street and Edmonds Drive, involving a yellow Ford 150 pickup truck. Deputies located and attempted to pull over a suspected stolen vehicle near the Maverick Gas Station around 7:54 p.m. when the suspect fled from deputies at high speed. He crashed moments later as the truck ended up through a fence on Carson City Airport property.
The suspect fled the gas station eastbound at a high rate of speed down College Parkway where he ended up overcorrecting his vehicle and running over the median before crashing through a fence on the west side of the street.
The driver of the vehicle was ejected from the truck and died immediately on scene after the vehicle rolled.
College Parkway from Airport Road to Nye Lane was shut down while Nevada Highway Patrol, the Sheriff’s Office and Nevada Division of Investigations were on scene.
NHP will take over the crash portion of the investigation and NDI will take over the criminal portion with their Multidisciplinary Investigation and Reconstruction Team.
The driver was a Hispanic adult male, though no other information was available on his identity. Deputies believe the vehicle was stolen from the area of the hit and run around 4 p.m. Thursday. One police car was rammed during the chase, though no other injuries were reported.
The area around the crash was expected to stay closed throughout the night while crews investigated.
No other information was available at press time.
