Carson City man dies after being hit walking along I-580

An 18-year-old Carson City man died Monday morning after he was hit walking along Interstate 580 in north Washoe alley.

Nevada Highway Patrol responded to the incident at I-580, north of the Bellevue Road overpass in Washoe Valley at 1:07 a.m. Monday. According to NHP, Chile Bartels, 18, of Carson City was walking northbound in the slow lane when a red 1998 Honda Civic driven by 42-year-old Sparks resident, James Dolan, hit Bartels. Dolan pulled over to assist Bartels, but he died at the scene.

Dolan was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was later arrested on warrants not associated with the accident and transported to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The northbound lanes of 580 were closed during the course of the investigation.
