Carson High School is currently seeking community volunteers to help judge senior projects.
The high school is going to provide training to help judges understand all that’s expected of them.
Senior Projects are mandatory for every student to complete in order to get their diploma. Students select a project and develop a portfolio based upon completion of the project. The students then present in front of the community members a speech in which they detail the hands-on portion of their project.
Each panel typically consists of five students in front of a panel facilitated by one teacher, and usually has three to five community judges.
All formal panel presentations will be held on Monday, April 18, in three different time cycles. Presentation times are at 8 to 9:40 a.m., 10 to 11:40 a.m. and noon to 1:40 p.m.
Judges are expected to review senior portfolios before presentations, about 15-20 minutes per portfolio. Portfolios will be available for review between April 4 and April 16.
There will be three training sessions for judges, which is recommended. Those are Tuesday, April 5 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.; Thursday, April 7 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 9 from 10 to 11:30 a.m.
Volunteers will be accepted until panels become full. For more information contact the Senior Project coordinator by email at SeniorProject@carson.k12.nv.us or at 283-1640.
