Can you make the grade for CAPS?

Dear readers, I am making a shameless plea to everyone for help. We have almost lost two of our faithful volunteers in the huge pot-holes that dot our driveway. Yes, they are so deep that

if you drove a Mini Cooper out to the shelter, you would be forever sucked into the muddy void. That is why I’m asking if you can make the grade for us.

Our CAPS community would be forever grateful to anyone who would be willing to grade our road. We would give you an A+++ for generosity, community spirit and kindness. I wish we could offer a huge cash incentive, but unfortunately we have guests who rely on us to keep them fed, sheltered and loved.

If you can find it in your heart and schedule to help out, please give us a call. It is such a wonderful feeling knowing that we do have folks who care and are willing to pitch in to help us. Fallon is the small town with a big heart! I can assure you that all the volunteers and patrons will be thanking you from the bottom of their hearts.

Speaking of hearts, don’t forget that Sunday is Valentine’s Day. I already got a big chocolate surprise for my husband and a carob treat for Watson. Last year he gave me a big chocolate Lab smooch and helped make breakfast. He is really good at making sure any crumbs that fall on the floor disappear. I hope your Valentine’s Day is great! We’ll be walking around the dog park and enjoying the fresh air.

WHO’S WHO

Our Who’s Who this week is Teresa Summers who has served as the executive director of CAPS for 25 years. It is with heavy hearts that we bid Teresa goodbye. She has been the heart and soul of CAPS all these years. Teresa was always looking for the happy-ever-after home for each and every guest that showed up at CAPS. She has poured her energy, love and enthusiasm into each task she has undertaken. Our love and good wishes go to her whatever her future brings. We hope she finds her happy-ever-after. A huge paws up to Teresa; we love you!

WHO’S NEW AT THE CAPS’ ZOO?

Mack and Mickey are gray domestic short hair tabbies, who are six-months old brothers. If you want to talk about fun, these guys put the F in fun. They romp, rumble and play. If you want to have fun, come out for a play date with these two. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

We have a darling puppy who is a Lab cross. He is five months old and was dumped in the desert with a torn ACL. Fortunately he found his way to CAPS. He needs tender loving care and will reward you with love and affection. Come by and meet him. He may be our surprise kisser at Walmart; stop by and find out.

We have two male kitties ready for their new homes. Make this a Valentine’s Day to remember with a new pet to enjoy life with. Policy, however, prohibits adopting out puppies or kittens under the age of six months to a home with children under five years of age. This is to protect both the children and the animal.

CAPS’ NEWS AND EVENTS

CAPS will be at Walmart tomorrow, along with Ki at our Kissin’ Booth. There will also be a “mystery” kisser. Please come by and give our boys a big hug and kiss. We have hoodies, sweatshirts and caps, so please check them out before or after greeting our canine volunteers. Sunday is Valentine’s Day and it isn’t too late to get that cute hoodie for your sweetie.

Flower Tree Nursery is again raffling a 15-gallon tree. The drawing date is March 15, and the winner doesn’t have to be present to win. Raffle tickets are available at Flower Tree, and they are $1 for one ticket and $5 for six tickets.
