The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be focusing on reducing speeding drivers in February as a part of its Joining Forces program.
Speeding is a contributing factor in approximately one-third of fatal crashes on the nation’s roadways, said Carson City Sgt. Scott McDaniel. Exceeding the speed limit is considered aggressive driving as is weaving in and out of traffic and failing to yield to other motorists.
Additional deputies will be out at various points throughout the month to concentrate solely on traffic enforcement through this program. Grant funding to pay those deputies is provided by the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Office of Traffic Safety.
Joining Forces is a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement program that promotes statewide enforcement for areas such as pedestrian safety, distracted driving and seat belt use. The goal of this campaign is to save lives by increasing public awareness about the dangers of making poor choices while driving.
