Participants in this week’s Business Alliance Network presentation will learn the basics of effective storytelling, the elements of a good website and how the Carson City Library can help put those principles into action.
“The library is more than a place to check out books,” said Kyle Horvath, marketing director for the Carson City Visitors Bureau. “It’s more of a business resource center.”
Thursday’s 6 p.m. meeting at the Carson City Library is the second in a serious of presentations designed to help local businesses promote themselves to tourists as well as network with one another.
The first meeting featured Constance Aguilar, digital director for Reno’s Abbi Agency, discussing the importance of defining and sharing the businesses’ stories.
“People who were inspired by last month’s meeting will receive the tools they need to put that message into place,” Horvath said. “They will find out how to be better marketers.”
Sena Loyd, director of the Carson City Library, will give attendees a tour of the facility and an overview of the classes offered, including social media, basic computing and website creation and design.
Joel Dunn, director of the visitors bureau, said the Business Alliance Network is pointed toward connecting business with tools needed to be successful.
“The library is working with us as a partner to provide resources for local businesses,” he said. “It’s also a chance for the library to increase community awareness about what they offer.”
In turn, he said, a thriving business community creates an environment to draw visitors.
Future BAN presentations include a two-day social media symposium in April, Google analytics, design, digital brand and employment and labor laws.
“Businesses that want to grow and be a part of what we’re trying to create here should be rewarded for their motivation,” Horvath said. “That is what we’re going to do — give them the opportunities to be better and be more involved.”
