The new Registry Act, which has passed the Assembly, came up for consideration in the Senate yesterday. The Committee to which the bill was referred returned it to the Senate with an amendment which substantially retains the prepayment poll tax clause.

130 years ago

The subject of tree culture is receiving more attention each year in all civilized countries. In Russia, every person that cuts a tree down is compelled to plant two in its place. In Sweden a day is set aside each year for tree planting, and a prize offered to the man who plants the most. It is time for real Nevadans, who intend to make their homes in the state, to act.

100 years ago

Federal officials admitted today that after investigation they concluded a national plot existed against the government. It is reported the evidence found in Crones room indicated a conspiracy extending from San Francisco to New York. The plotters planned raids where the anarchists plotted a reign of terror against federal buildings and officials. The plan was hatched in New York and financed by blackmailing.

70 years ago

The long interstate squabble about the famed silver service of the equally famous USS Nevada has at last come to an end, according to a telegram received today from Sen. Pat McCarran in Washington. The silver service will be given to the state museum.

50 years ago

Three inmates at the State Prison have been declared co-winners of a $250 scholarship donated by the Western Nevada Peace Officers Association. The scholarship was unanimously approved last week at the Western Nevada Peace Officers convention in Yerington.

30 years ago

Most of northwest Nevada braced today for what the National Weather Service called “serious mainstream flooding.” Continued rainstorms closed roads and flooded homes in Carson City and Carson Valley, and forced the evacuation of some areas along the Carson River.
