Money for the soldiers. Major Drew, Paymaster, U.S.A., passed through here yesterday, in the Pioneer Stage, on his way to Salt Lake City. He takes with home some $350,000 in currency to pay off the troops with. Good chance for road agents.

Nevada names. At the expense of considerable research, the Reveille has collected the following list of the origin of many of the names of Nevada towns, counties and rivers; Virginia City was named from “Old Virginia,” an early pioneer character who christened the new town after himself during a drinking spree. Carson City and Carson River after Kit Carson, the famous scout. Winnemucca, from the old Paiute chief. Reno, from Gen. Reno, killed at battle of Ball’s Bluff. (Continued on Saturday).

Word has been received that W.W. Booth, editor of the Bonanza, was released from the custody of the sheriff of Nye County at noon yesterday at the order of the State Board of Parole.

Doomed to serve as a “Guinea pig” as the navy conducts atomic bomb tests this spring, a former crewman of the famed USS Nevada wrote to Gov. Vail Pittman this week urging the state executive to save the ship from the bottom of the Pacific.

Two young Tonopah men died early Sunday after their car went out of control along U.S. Highway 95 and rolled over several times near Coaldale. Nevada’s highway death toll remains at 29 for the year.

New owners of the Territorial Enterprise said their free-wheeling news stories and editorials resulted in someone planting a smoke bomb under the publisher’s home here.
