A Storey County Sheriff’s deputy was shot while responding to a domestic violence call in Virginia City.

Sheriff Gerald Antinoro says deputies were called to a residence in the Highlands area at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

According to Antinoro, 51-year-old Charles Stutts fired numerous rounds from a rifle as deputies arrived.

One deputy was hit and another person also at the scene.

Antinoro says the deputy returned fire, leading to Stutts surrendering without incident.

The deputy, suspect and the second person injured all were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

Stutts has been booked on charges of attempted murder of a peace officer, attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery.

His bail had not been set Sunday.

The deputy is on routine administrative leave.
