Joseph (Joe) John Pieretti passed away January 4, 2016 surrounded by his family. Joe a native of Carson City was born April 24, 1931 to Eugenio Pieretti (Lammari Lucca, Italy) and Natalina (Frugoli) Pieretti (Dayton, Nevada). He attended schools in Carson City graduating from Carson High where he excelled in sports. He was the only one in his class to letter all 4 years. While in school he was named to Boys State. Upon graduation from high school he went to work for the State of Nevada at the Employment Security Department then he was the 3rd person hired when the Department of Taxation was formed working there until his retirement in 1986. He then worked for the Legislative Counsel Bureau in the Senate Bill Room for many Legislative sessions. Joe was a lifelong member of St Teresa of Avila Catholic Church where he served as an Alter boy until graduation from High School. He was appointed by Father Hugh Smith as the 1st Chairman for the Catholic Services Appeal. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also active in various other organizations including the 20-30 Club and the Host Lions Club along with several hunting clubs.

Joe was drafted into the U.S Marines during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. In 1956 Joe met the love of his life Kathleen (Kay) Baxter. They were married July 27, 1957 at St. Teresa of Avila Church and were married for 58 years this last July. They were blessed with three daughters and one son. He was very active in the girls schooling, sports and other extracurricular activities. Joe Served in the 60’s as a board member to the Greater Nevada Credit Union. In 1968, Governor Paul Laxalt appointed him to the Selective Service Board where he served as a member until it was dissolved. Joe was an avid sportsman. He loved to play softball, bowl, golf, fish and hunt with many trips into the high country. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Joseph John Jr (Little Joe), his brothers Eugene and Ray Pieretti and nephew Matthew Pieretti. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kay, daughters Natalie Pieretti, Kristina (Pieretti) Barrette, Teresa Pieretti, his 3 granddaughters, Megan and Alison Barrette and Hannah Clark. He is also survived by his brothers Dave(Sigrid) Pieretti, Jack Pieretti, Jerry(Debbie) Pieretti, and sister Loretta Fields plus many nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday, January 14, 2016 at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 300 Lompa Lane Carson City, starting at 9:30am with the Rosary and then the Mass of Resurrection following at 10:00am. Interment of Ashes will follow the Mass at St. Teresa’s Memorial Garden with Veteran Honors.
