Teri Sweeney Art will be holding the second in a series of three workshops on how to paint en plein air (painting done outside rather than in a studio) starting July 13 and running through Aug. 3.
The series first prepares students with skills they need to paint outdoors by introducing concepts and working in studio for the first two workshops. The classes then move outdoors in the third workshop, in which students experience painting en plein air.
The series began in June with a monthlong drawing workshop that covered how to get objects in the right place and proportion in a painting, as well as a segment on perspective. The second workshop will work with students in various painting mediums on techniques they can use to produce the quick paintings that are necessary when working in changing light. The class will work on a number of small paintings in studio, first from photos, then from life. The workshop is open to students in all mediums, but some prior background in their chosen medium is suggested. The instructor will be demonstrating in watercolor and oil.
The “Painting En Plein Air — Painting Techniques” workshop will be held in Teri Sweeney’s Gardnerville Studio on Wednesdays from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for four weeks. The cost is $100.
