Honor Flight salutes Nevada’s veterans

This is a short follow-up to recount the many sights and sounds of appreciation and honor afforded the World War II and Korea veterans at the recent Honor Flight Nevada trip to Washington, D.C., on June 24-26.

Firstly, Nevada Honor Flight was very well organized, while at the same time compassionate and patient. The logistics of transport, meals, flights, security, and baggage for all of the veterans and their “guardians” (like me) came off flawlessly.

Everyone participated fully, helping each other and sharing the thanks and respect garnered at the memorials, airports, and hotel. It was awesome to experience the World War II, Iwo Jima, and Korean War memorials, Arlington National Cemetery, the Vietnam Wall and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with these fine men.

I shed tears of happiness at the respect, admiration and thanks given to them by everyone — young and old, every color and political persuasion, wherever we went. The police escort, the applause, handshakes and hugs put big smiles on all of our faces.

I feel so fortunate to have been a part of this wonderful trip, and will remember it fondly forever. Honor Flight Nevada and our veterans, I salute you.
