Mark your calendar for the third annual community-wide reunion taking place the weekend of Aug. 19-21.

You don’t have to be a Churchill County High School graduate. All individuals, families, students, teachers and staff members are welcome to any event, regardless of when they were in Fallon, what school they may have attended for any period of time or class year.

“It’s really neat,” said Susan McCormick, whose on the reunion’s organization committee. “It’s just a nice thing to do, because you’re going to be pretty sure you’ll see people you know.”

The reunion has a Facebook group, whose page can be found at www.facebook.com/communityreunionfallon, where McCormick says they’ve received great suggestions.

In result, on Friday from 5-7 p.m., there will be an opening social at the Fallon Theatre—where classes may arrange for screen or stage time by calling 775-423-2126 or emailing karla@kentssupply.com.

You’re invited to put together a CD of photos or create a class skit for instance. The special showings will be followed by a featured movie for which you can purchase a ticket to help fundraise for future reunions.

Attractions on Saturday will include a $6 breakfast at the Churchill County Senior Center on 310 Court St. near Oats Park, as well as a purse sale to benefit the center’s Meals on Wheels program. The breakfast will include eggs, hash browns, biscuits and gravy, and much more. Afterward, there will be a free “show-n-shine” car show in the center’s parking lot. There will also be a free swim day at the Municipal Swimming Pool on 423 E. Richards St.

Free reunion registration begins at 4 p.m. in Oats Park. Registration can help you stay connected with other attendees or reconnect. Complimentary transportation to the park festivities will be available to and from the park from the E.C. Best Elementary School parking lot at 750 E. Williams Ave.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic or enjoy the food concessions Stockman’s Casino will be selling. Some classes will have tents including one for the University of Nevada, Reno, alumni and for the High School Hall of Fame group.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a concert by musical group BeauSoleil avec Michael Doucet. The celebration will continue afterward in the Art Bar at the Oats Park Art Center.

Note that tours and activities throughout Saturday will feature the old high school, the Oats Park school and art center, Fallon Theatre, Churchill County Library, Churchill County Museum, Douglass House and the old post office, and the Frey Ranch Estate Distillery.

On Sunday, from 7:30-10:30 a.m., there will be an $8 breakfast at the Fraternal Order of Eagles hall on Reno Highway.

“You know,” McCormick said, “you think it’s going to be lovely. But really it has turned into an event that’s exactly what I envisioned: it’s bringing the community together.”

“It’s really fun,” she added, “if you’ve been in the community a long time and had some of these teachers; people love seeing these teachers. It’s fun for those who didn’t graduate from here but were here from say kindergarten to 7th grade. It’s just a nice place to be because you’re going to be pretty sure you’ll see people you know.”

McCormick said they’re keeping their fingers crossed they get some class of 1946 honorees in attendance. She mentioned it was really exciting for her last year as a class member of 1945.

“All our work is volunteer,” McCormick said. “All the people who man the booths … And the city has been a tremendous support; I can’t say enough about them.”

“Hopefully,” she added, “we’re organizing the reunion in such a manner that it will perpetuate itself when I’m long gone. We’ll get people on the committee. It’s not hard to do—we’re trying to keep it with minimal actual hard work.”

Call 775-423-5465 or email communityreunionfallon@gmail.com to become involved or ask questions. You can also visit www.facebook.com/communityreunionfallon to ask questions and keep up-to-date. Maps will be available over the weekend to help guide attendees to the various venues.
