Two people were killed in a motorcycle wreck on Highway 89 near the Alpine, Mono county line.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the two people were riding northbound on Highway 89 near Monitor Pass at about 1:25 p.m. A Nissan Versa and a Ford Escape were traveling in the opposite direction when the Harley crossed the centerline into the path of the Versa. The Harley hit both the front of the Versa and the Escape.
Both of the Harley’s riders were killed in the collision.
The occupants of the Versa received minor injuries in the wreck.
Highway 89 was closed for three hours as rescuers cleared the wreckage and the accident scene was investigated.
The highway reopened at about 5 p.m. Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The identity of the deceased motorcyclists hasn’t been released. KTVN Channel is 2 in Reno said the motorcycle riders were from Carson City.
