U.S. Bureau: Carson City workers earn 4 percent less than rest of nation

On average, Carson City workers earn 4 percent less than the national average wage, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The average hourly wage in May 2015 was $22.23, versus $23.23 nationally, for workers in the Carson City metropolitan statistical area, which comprises only the capital.

Wages in Carson City were lower than the respective national averages in 13 of the 22 major occupational groups.

The biggest differences were in management, where Carson City workers earn an average of $41.64 an hour or 25 percent less than the national average of $55.30; computer and mathematical, where workers earn $31.12 an hour versus $41.43, or 25 percent less; and architecture and engineering, where workers earn $31.18 an hour or 22 percent less than the national average of $39.89.

Three groups had significantly higher wages than the national averages: healthcare practitioners and technical, who earned 13 percent more, or $42.36 an hour versus $37.40; healthcare support, who earned $16.04 an hour or 13 percent more than national average of $14.19; and community and social service, where workers were paid 12 percent more than the national average or $24.88 an hour versus $22.19.

In the largest employment group, office and administrative support, which employs 18.2 percent in Carson City, workers averaged 3 percent less than the rest of the country, or $16.87 per hour versus $17.47.
