Artillery practice: The firing which was heard early last evening was from the brass howitzer belonging to the Carson Zouaves. The boys had their cannon out for practice — getting ready for the Fourth of July.

130 years ago

The arson case: When the Appeal was being made up night before last, officer Furlong was testifying. After he had testified that he had felt the boards in the cubbyhole and found them hot, General Clarke for the defense asked if any smoke was in the room. The witness said, “No.” After two hours the jury brought back a verdict of “not guilty.”

100 years ago

Help clean up: The executive committee of the North Side Improvement Club asks the cooperation of all residents of that district in Clean Up Week beginning next Monday. The club has issued a communication asking all north of the railroad tracks to cart away rubbish.

70 years ago

Halfway around the world by air! That’s the travel schedule for the University of Nevada’s 1946 football team, which has lined up an ambitious, colorful schedule for what Coach Jim Aiken predicts will be his greatest grid eleven. The Wolf Pack pioneered the idea some 17 or 18 years ago when it chartered a fleet of small “flying machines” to take the squad from Reno to play USC.

Members of the Christian Science Church in Carson City are joining today in welcoming Erwin D. Canham as the new president of the church as members from around the world convene in Boston for their Centennial Year annual meeting.

A potential feud between casinos and RV park owners may have been diverted when no action was taken by the Board of Supervisors on a proposed ordinance restricting recreation vehicles. The ordinance as proposed limits vehicles to recreation vehicle parks.
